Acceptance & Canada

Yesterday in class Ms. Hardman showed that Canadian word summary collage. I was surprised to see that "accept" wasn't used very much. Personally, I think that acceptance is a big part of what makes us Canadian! I mean, we as Canadians accept all cultures and allow them to come into our country to live. We accept the fact that they might be different, but we still treat them equally and give them the same rights and benefits as everyother Canadian. Most importantly, we accept their culture! We let them share their food, clothing, and beliefs with us. We have allowed them to setup businesses so that we can all experience these things. I believe that acceptance has definately made us stronger as a country. Without it, we probably wouldn't be living in such a peaceful country right now.
Feel free to disagree... I would love to hear some feedback on this! :)

  1. Acceptance is an important part of any country, but in all honesty, I don't think us Canadians are as accepting as we should be. At school, I'm always hearing racist jokes, insults, and I see kids being harassed and bullied, not necessarily because of their race, but because they're different in some way. Casandra, you're absolutely right, and I think we should all learn to be more accepting as Canadians.

  2. I actually agree with what Casandra said. We are very accepting on many levels, but at the same time Dolly also has a point because, yes there is bullying going on everywhere which obviously isn't acceptable. But also for the word thing, instead of writing "accept" people could have put it in different terms such as saying that we are multicultural, loyal, or polite, because in some sense those are all part of accepting.

  3. Oh thanks guys! :) I agree with what both of you have to say. Very good points! Definately something to think about.
